Virtual Private Network (VPN)
VPN is the easy answer. Wondering what VPN is? The VPN has been an internet age-old solution which in fact, many Nigerians have been using, both for the good and the bad cause. On the bad side, most yahoo boys use VPN to hide locations or to deceive internet servers they are in a different location and or to pretend to their victims they are in another country. While on the good side, internet marketers and dealers use the VPN to access internet services that are exclusively banned/or denied to Nigerians or (internet services that are) rather inaccessible locally -just for the purpose of delivering their services or skills efficiently.
How does VPN work?
Ideally, VPN works by routing and encrypting your data through its servers before sending it to the website you are visiting, including Twitter. Simply put, a VPN changes your IP address, making it seem like you’re located somewhere else/in another country. This means, if you live in Nigeria and connect to the internet via a VPN server located in the US, the website you’re visiting will think you’re based in the US.
How VPN can help you access Twitter in Nigeria?
With the ban of Twitter in Nigeria, demands would be very much on the high side for the VPN service, being the way to go, to go on. Now the major challenge here would be the fact that the best and secured VPNs are not entirely free (of charge), hence adding to more internet expenses asides internet data which already is on the high side.
Either way, here are some of the best VPNs, including the premium and FREE VPN.
As for FREE VPN, it won’t be best advised to go for free VPN, as some VPN providers may reserve ulterior motives to sell your personal info or your browsing activities eventually. This could technically defeat your quest to using VPN, even worse, counter-productive.

2. Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection
Kaspersky is a much familiar name among computer users, as its antivirus/computer protection software is one the most popular and most trusted (in Nigeria).
Kaspersky currently offers a Free VPN service but not without limitations; being that it only offers 200MB of data per day or 300MB if the app is connected to a My Kaspersky account, which translates to at least 6GB per month. That may not be bad considering it’s free, but the good news is the service works very well. plus, you can always access more data, as you can easily upgrade to the paid plan which offers unlimited data and the chance to choose the server location. Pricing starts at around $2.5 per month if you opt for an annual plan.

Why Nigeria Government banned Twitter
Although the Nigeria Government and the Local Twitter community have hardly maintained a good relationship, with Twitter being the key (virtual) platform on which the ENDSARS protest was facilitated and technically supported by Twitter owner Jack Dorsey, the eventual decision to ban Twitter was reached when Twitter deleted the President’s tweet on the ground it breached their community policy.
On Tuesday (2nd of June 2021), Nigeria President had tweeted that
On Wednesday (3rd of June), Twitter deleted Buhari’s tweet due to a massive online protest by the Nigerian Twitter Community, following a massive report of the President’s account regarding the controversial tweet to the Twitter (admin).
In the following couple of days; Nigerian President spokespersons and government officials/supporters began to decry (what they claim as) “what the Twitter mission is, in Nigeria” and vowed to ban the social media platform from operating in the country.
On Friday (4th June 2021), the Nigerian government announced its ban on Twitter, and from Saturday (5th of June), the Twitter website/URL and apps became inaccessible or unreachable.
The ban according to the Nigeria Federal Government is indefinite.
